A COMPARATIVE SIMULATION OF PERTURB AND OBSERVE (P&O) AND INCREMENTAL CONDUCTANCE (IC) ALGORITHMS USING SIMULINK
Abstract
Maximum Power Point Trackers (MPPT) are used to increase the energy yield of photovoltaic systems. A
comparative simulation of Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (IC) algorithms, two of the
most widely used algorithms in commercial MPPTs, is carried out using Simulink. A model of the Photovoltaic
system is developed using Simulink. The P&O and IC algorithms are implemented using MATLAB codes. The
results show that IC performs slightly better than P&O. The better performance of IC is in terms of the power
extracted from the modules and the time it takes to track the maximum power.
